The following resources are meant to enable our patients to optimize their outcomes following treatment with us.

  • What is Bodywork and How Can it Help?

At Durham Tongue Tie Laser Clinic, we assess tongue and lip ties and their potential impact on the whole body of the infant. Often, the presence of a tethered oral tissue creates tensions and requires muscle compensations in other parts of the body (neck, face, upper body, etc). Sometimes these compensations can be more impactful because of tightness that exists in the infant’s body from their in-utero and/or birth experience. While a frenectomy (release) can often have a significant impact on the mobility of the tongue, to restore optimal function and health for the infant and increase the benefits of the frenectomy, bodywork is highly recommended.

    Types of Bodywork:
    What is CranioSacral Therapy?
CranioSacral Therapy (CST) is a gentle, hands-on therapy that releases tension in the body that may be causing limitations to movement, pain and dysfunction. With these releases, there can be a restoration of whole-body health and function. Using a soft touch, practitioners release restrictions in the soft tissues that surround the central nervous system which is the epicenter for stability and regulation.
    What is Osteopathy?
Osteopathy is a manual form of therapy with a foundational belief in a person’s ability to self-heal. It emphasizes the relationship between the structure and function of the human body and the unity of a person as a whole.
Osteopathy focuses on supporting and facilitating the health of the whole person; their entire physiology inclusive of joints, muscles and nerves through non-invasive, gentle manual therapy. Osteopathy is helpful for people of all ages to heal and strengthen the structure and function of the body.
    What is Chiropractic Medicine?
Chiropractic care offers adjustments in highly skilled and precise movements, usually applied by hand to a joint of the body. The goal of the adjustment, also known as spinal manipulation, is to restore proper movement to the joint and optimize function. Although chiropractors are spine specialists, they are highly knowledgeable about the nervous system, and soft tissue therapy for muscle and joint conditions. Chiropractic adjustments for infants are given in a very gentle and non-invasive manner.

  • Videos of Stretches

Below are links to videos that demonstrate stretches to be done following release. We will review these at your appointment and you are encouraged to record the demonstration with your phone.

Please keep in mind that the videos recommend different stretching regimens/frequencies and we encourage you to follow our recommendations.

The following video is beneficial to go along with before and after having a release done. It will make your baby’s oral tissues more mobile and make the stretches easier to do since they will be used to having oral exercises completed.
